LCB DEPOT

The competition brief was set by the LCB Depot, Leicester, to produce a site specific 4D experience for digital multimedia interaction based on a royalty free poem.

The poem chosen was a scifaiku by Bath lecturer Yvonne Aburrow

Next time you hear
crickets fiddling, watch out
for tiny spaceships

The concept was to create an interactive story of crickets taking over the world through sound. As the user enters the space, they proceed to read from right to left the story of how the crickets formulate their plan. Each comic pannel is a flat screen pannel, with animationed frames providie an interaction between user and story. In order to understand they must progress the installation in the correct order.

The final interactive piece is a flat screen that requires the audience to participate in order to finish the story. Using a system of pressure switches, they activate animations of each member of a band to layer instruments and create a soundscape.
